When to Open Your Pool in New Jersey
By the BlueIQ Pools team ·
Opening your pool at the right time sets up a smooth season. Here is our advice for New Jersey pool owners.
The sweet spot
Most pools in New Jersey are opened between late April and mid-May. Once daytime temperatures consistently reach the mid-60s F, algae can start growing under the cover.
Why opening early can cost less
Starting with cool, relatively clean water usually takes fewer chemicals than fighting a green pool after opening late.
What a good opening includes
- Cover removal, cleaning and storage
- Reinstalling fittings, ladders and rails
- Starting and inspecting the pump, filter, heater and automation
- Checking for winter damage and leaks
- Shocking and balancing the water
Plan upgrades at opening
Opening is the ideal time to replace worn equipment, switch to LED lights or add automation before the season starts.
Book early
We recommend booking your opening in February or March.
